Dianna Haskett started her journey from the ground up when she established Designs by Dianna in 1989. She began by networking with local groups and calling on fellow members from her previous employer, Antenna Specialist where she worked in the corporate setting of the engineering department designing manuals, drawing blue prints and working with engineers developing cellular communications, before the company closed its doors.
With the guidance of Myers University and the mentors of the Rotary Club of Cleveland, she was mentored by many individuals from the Cleveland Institute of Art and other successful business owners. Dianna’s corporate skills in AutoCAD and Photoshop gave her the education she needed on running a business that would later play a role in growing her business.
Designs by Dianna became an EDGE certified business. As its name suggests, the State of Ohio’s Encouraging Diversity, Growth and Equity (EDGE) program provides an EDGE to small businesses working with the state of Ohio since 2003.
“Our business name reflects the basic foundation,” Dianna said. Starting as a commercial artist and mentored by her instructor, a sign painter, she was able to support herself throughout high school and college, and liked the diversity it brought.
Designs by Dianna, has partnered with MetroHealth since 2003 to develop current signage standards of way-finding and overall “good customer service” in understanding obstacles when working with providing direction.
“The sky is the limit when it comes to developing new processes and new products” said the proud owner. The business is also actively involved with the upcoming Newbury Bicentennial.
With now close to 50 banners hanging up in the area and possibly more to be put up, Dianna emphasizes the business’ involvement with the town’s 200th birthday. She also includes t-shirts, brochures and a beautiful 2017 custom calendar outlining the history.
Today, Designs by Dianna business provides business branding from the logo to the signage on the building. Project management starts with your design to obtaining permits, production and final installations. Their in-house production includes laser engravable products like ADA Braille, trophies and many specializes signage processes. “I personally oversee the project from start to finish” said Dianna. She traveled to New York this past spring to review two projects completed for FLEXJET, formally flightOPTIONS, a Cleveland-based private airport company for which Dianna has provided services for over 13 years.
