The Joe Peters Memorial Pig Roast was a thing of beauty. First of all, to honor Joe with an event that supports kids and sports could not have been more fitting. Secondly, to take an idea and watch it develop it into such a successful event was amazing. The day was filled with fun for everyone from kids to teenagers to adults. It felt like a big family reunion. You would be hard-pressed to find anyone who didn’t enjoy it. We had three goals: to raise as much as we could while creating a special day, to have the students participate in earning their own money to instill a sense of ownership in what it takes to make money for the things you want, and to bring together two booster groups and the community for one purpose.
To see the coaches, teams, parents, Athletic Boosters and the Music Boosters work together on a project is gratifying and hopefully the beginning of more collaborations. We are grateful to all of them for their hard work and dedication to this project.
Trying to put this event together in just seven weeks was an enormous undertaking for everyone, but this amazing group of diverse people pulled it off. So many people who volunteered to tackle this Herculean task, worked creatively, cooperatively, unselfishly and tirelessly to make it happen. You are all unbelievable. More than 50 volunteers worked on the planning and implementing of this fundraiser. There are too many of you to list, but please know that we are thankful.
Thanks to the teams, athletes and music students who took part and worked so hard to help raise their own funds to pay their participation fees. They held car washes, a donut-eating contest, Scotch doubles bowling, a dinner show, ran the cheese booth at the Ox Roast, and sponsored a golf outing. They held raffles and had a very entertaining Dunk Tank at the Pig Roast. Collectively, they raised over $20,000.
The 1st Annual Joe Peters Memorial Pig Roast is so pleased to tell you that the Pig Roast combined with the Car Raffle raised a total of more than $79,000 after expenses toward Pay to Participate fees. As a result, this money combined with the team-raised funds, means no Cardinal student will pay fees for any fall activity this year. The total fees due to the Cardinal Board of Education for this fall were $98,712 and are now paid in full.
Thanks also to all those who donated for the silent and Chinese auctions, the food and event donations, and the raffle donations. We are all enormously grateful to those businesses and individuals who chose to sponsor our Pig Roast. Please shop, eat at and frequent these businesses, and thank these individuals when you see them to show your appreciation. They are truly generous, student-oriented, community-minded people.
Words cannot express our thankfulness to Debbie Manfredi, Debbie Martell, Rick and Janet Weirick, Rich Collins and Paul Domen who cooked and served the food for 400 guests. Many, many thanks to Chere and Tim Fenselon for their guidance, support and confidence that we were on the right track, Bill Poole for always finding a solution when things got complicated and most especially Seth and Kristen Klepper for their vision and unwavering belief in the objective.
And our most sincere thanks to Pat Preston, Preston Superstore & the Chevy Network for the very generous donation of a cash sponsorship and the 2017 Chevy Traverse for our raffle.
Two days after the announcement that student fall Pay to Participate fees were all going to be covered by the fundraising, we received a message from a single mom who worked a second job in order to pay for her daughters’ band fees. She was so grateful to us because not only could her daughter be in the band, but she could now afford to go to Cedar Point with the band and get band pictures this year. THAT is what this fundraiser was all about!
Some didn’t think it could be done, but everyone kept pushing ahead toward the goal. This was truly a community effort to accomplish an incredible feat. Success is always within reach, if you believe.
The committee, coaches, students and booster organizations THANK YOU, our supporters and those who came to our event.
We hope that you are all looking forward to next year as much as we are.
