Due to the exciting Set-the-Stage renovation project at Geauga Lyric Theater Guild (GLTG) in Chardon this summer, their Elementary and Intermediate workshops will be held off site at Cardinal Middle School, 16175 Almeda Drive, Middlefield, made possible in partnership with the Middlefield ecreation Department and Cardinal School Systems.
After learning about the renovations at the theater, Village Council member Bill Blue approached the Middlefield Village Council and the Cardinal School System about offering GLTG an opportunity to hold classes at the Cardinal Middle School during summer break using their beautiful stage and work space.
Blue, whose granddaughter began attending theater workshops at 4 years of age, says, “I hope parents and grandparents take advantage of having these performing art workshops right here in the Village. It is hard to describe the wonderful feeling of watching your child or grandchild up on the stage and to share their excitement before, during and after each performance. This is a great opportunity and who knows, maybe future stars will be born.”
GLTG theater workshops promote creative expression and civic engagement to people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities. This summer partnership will allow students to learn about the elements of theater, including set construction, costuming, makeup, and choreography that they will use for two fantastic performances.
Rehearsal days are Monday through Thursday at the Middle School from June 4 through July 19.
The Elementary Workshop for ages 8 through 12 will rehearse for “Treasure Island” from 9 a.m. to noon with the performance scheduled for July 26, 27 and 28. The fee is $315 with payment plans available.
The Intermediate Workshop for ages 13 through 17 will rehearse for “Annie Jr.” from 1 to 4 p.m. with the performance scheduled for July 19, 20, and 21. The fee is $315 with payment plans available.
