Recognizing the need for a local bank within the community, a group of local business men met in early 1901 to discuss fulfilling this need. On Sept. 16, 1901, The Middlefield Banking Company was opened with an authorized capital of $25,000. Today, with total assets of $1.1 billion, as of March 31, 2018, the Bank has remained true to its roots, with the main office/branch, a second branch, and administration offices all located in Middlefield.
The Bank has continued to grow throughout Northeast and Central Ohio, with a new branch scheduled to open in Powell next month. This location in Delaware County will mark the 15th full-service branch, along with an LPL Financial® brokerage office and a Loan Production Office in Mentor, serves a diverse and strong customer base.
“Any organization is only as good as its corporate culture and its people. I am grateful for the company’s 200 associates, who do an outstanding job serving our customers and representing our core values,” said Thomas G. Caldwell, president and chief executive officer.
The Middlefield Banking Company is proud to be awarded with the Bauer 5 Star Rating, to be ranked 125th in the American Banker’s List of Top 200 Publicly Traded Community Banks for 2017, and to be the only Ohio bank to make the S&P Global Market Intelligence Annual Ranking of Community Banks for 2017, being ranked 76th.
“We strive to deliver superior financial products and responsive personalized service to our customers, while promoting economic growth within our local communities,” stated Caldwell.
The recent addition of mobile wallet now allows for MB debit cards to be compatible with Apple Pay®, Google Pay®, Android Pay® or Samsung Pay®. A mobile wallet is a simple and convenient way to pay in stores, online, and in apps. Also, a debit card management app called Card Valet was recently added. Card Valet is an app for your device that provides added security, safeguarding your MB debit card from potential fraud both online and offline. Both products are free to debit card customers of The Middlefield Banking Company.
“The Bank remains committed to providing our longstanding customers in Middlefield and all of our communities with a customer centric, community-oriented banking approach, and believe one key factor to our growth can be attributed to how our values resonate with customers,” said Caldwell.
