Students Bryce B., Grayson Y., Eve K. and Shirley Y. show off their creations from their time in a “maker space” in the JES library during the previous school year. Students will be able to expand their creations with the installation of a new 3D printer thanks to teacher Mrs. Sue Becker’s acceptance into the GE Additive Education Program for the 2018-19 school year.

Paws up for JES teacher Sue Becker – she’s been accepted into the GE Additive Education Program for the 2018-19 school year. The program received more than 3,000 applications from 41 countries and we couldn’t be more excited that Mrs. Becker has been selected into this second year class. As part of the program, Mrs. Becker will receive a 3D printing classroom package from Polar 3D that includes a 3D printer. With training, Mrs. Becker will learn how to use the software and hardware and then teach her students how to use it as well. It will become part of a “Maker Space” in the library so students can design new things. Maker spaces were new in the JES Library during the 2017-18 school year. There were five stations and at each station, students were presented with a task (like “build a bridge”) and then they let their imaginations and creativity take over using the materials provided. Last year students experimented, created, learned about and made different things using Legos, PlayDoh, magnets, and paper cups, among other things. We can’t wait to see what they come up with once a 3D printer is in the mix! Congratulations Mrs. Becker!
