These photos are of the south side of Route 87 heading east. The picture was taken at the intersection of East Elm (now East High) and Spring (now South Thompson) sometime before 1915. I am able to date the picture because the street was not paved until that year. This fact makes all four of these homes “Century Homes”. Although I cannot date each home, my guess would be that they were all built between 1900-1910 and at the time each owner of the home lived in it. That is not the case today. Everyone of the homes are still standing and are now rentals.Look closely at the last home on the right. When it was built it was a wood sided house. Later it was bricked to make it look like it does today. The very last building on the left is the Town Hall, built in 1886 and today is jointly owned by a private individual and the Middlefield VFW Post 9678.
