From the Desk of Santa Claus, North Pole
The greatest family holiday will soon be here. Christmas is a day of prayer, thanksgiving and family. For many it just doesn’t last long enough. Santa’s Hide-A-Way Hollow, however, has celebrated Christmas everyday for the past 40 years. We have visited more than 178,000 children to date. How we got here, why we are so busy, why we keep growing … well, it’s all because of you!
While I am one man who wears the Red Suit, there are so many friends, volunteers and local companies who have been the heart and soul of our existence, not to mention Mrs. Claus.
The Chagrin Valley JC’s who do the day-to-day planning for each visit. Metevac medical helicopters who land at our own helipad to assist the children. (We call them our Flying Angels.
Hexpol, Gold Key, Keithly, Progressive Insurance, Kraftmaid, NARI, Middlefield Rotary, Kiwanis, Middlefield Chamber of Commerce, Sheauga Hardwoods, Keller Williams Realty, Preston Superstore, Lowe’s Garden Center, Geauga Credit Union, Mrs. Claus’ sidekick, Jordan, and many others have volunteered countless hours to building, decorating and painting the North Pole Village.
The choirs of Holy Angels and St. Helen’s strolling the Village singing Christmas Carols.
Ronyak Paving recently installed more than 300 tons of asphalt grindings. This was most needed that our guests in wheel chairs could navigate the carriage trails. We are very grateful.
Many companies have sponsored a building or other necessities to entertain the children and their families. While I can’t tell you all that is here, I am sure, it is one of a kind. And I must tell you it is not open to the public.
To all our wonderful neighbors who smile and wave to the many busses carrying the families, our soldiers, our guests to the Village. I have been told many times how wonderful are the people of Middlefield.
We are presently building the North Pole Chapel. This is done with local help from J J Milling, Restoration ReConstruction (Mark Sanders) Royal Heating and Osborne Concrete as well as Sheauga Hardwoods, to name a few. This chapel will welcome all denominations and will assist families with a place to hold services for their child.
We are grateful to the many high school students who serve as elves at the Village and accompany us on our many travels to the children’s bedsides.
What I have tried to say in this letter is, THANK YOU! Santa’s Hide-A-Way Hollow is actually made up of so many people caring about others. Your support, your friendship, your kindness to strangers and each other. The children, their families and I are so very grateful. My coming to Middlefield was, and is a Blessing.
Now I must return to my home up north. It’s going to be very busy for the next few weeks as we prepare to visit children’s hospitals, their homes or wherever we can be of help. My Elves are so excited; it will soon be Christmas Eve. Please don’t forget my homemade cookies, cold milk, apples and carrots for the reindeer.
Merry Christmas to all and thank you all once again. Be good or get coal!
