Geauga County’s share of the operating costs for The Portage-Geauga Detention Center for Tax Budget Year 2020 will be $175,823.00 LOWER than the County’s 2019 Tax Budget Operating expense. This is a 27 ½% reduction from 2019.
The Juvenile Court has achieved this reduction through the judicious use of intervention services in drug and mental health cases and less costly restrictive services such as House Arrest and Interactive Supervised Probation (ISP) with GPS tracking ankle monitors. Constable John Ralph and Probation Director Beth Williams have been instrumental in maintaining the House Arrest and ISP programs. By adding supervision of House Arrest and ISP to Constable Ralph’s responsibilities (eliminating the former full-time position), the Court has maintained these important accountability programs at a substantial reduced expense to our taxpayers.
