This week’s photos are of the annual Sidewalk Sale that was held every year and was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. It always was a huge community event that brought large crowds of shoppers to Middlefield. Pictured here is the north side of West High Street. The picture was taken in the early 1960s and shows businesses that have closed long ago. The first business was the Rexall Drug Store located where the Good Hands Shoppe is currently. Next was the Western Auto store that was owned by Helen And Charles Zang. Western Auto nationally was one of the first stores where you could buy parts to fix your car. Next to that was the E-Z Way Laundromat owned by Corky and Ola Mae Klingman. Next was the Warren Sanitary Dairy Restaurant and then Kleinfelds Department Store owned by Ed and Becky Kleinfeld. The annual Sidewalk Sale was always full of bargains and was anxiously anticipated by all.
