Geauga County’s Dog Shelter takes in stray dogs throughout Geauga County. Some are lucky enough to go home, many others are available for adoption after their 72 hour hold. All dogs are spayed or neutered and vaccinated before going home with their new family. When space allows, they pull dogs from overcrowded shelters in surrounding counties to place in loving homes. Often, a dog will need additional medical care. The shelter operates on dog license fees, donations and fundraisers only. Consider supporting their annual garage sale and raffle basket fundraiser on Sept. 20, 21 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Businesses and individuals may make a tax deductible donation or donate items for the sale. No clothing or large items. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter, 12513 Merritt Road, Chardon (44024) during open hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day except Wednesday when they are open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For information, call the shelter, 440-286-8135 or Lynn, 440-241-1789.
