Fourth Graders Scarecrow Adventures on Display

Fourth Grade students read “The Little Scarecrow Boy” and made their own scarecrows! (MP Photo/BSD)

Burton Elementary fourth grade Language Arts students, with some guidance from Mrs. Neumore, Mrs. Burnett, and Mrs. McCandless have been busy this past week taking literary concepts and skills and putting them into practice with a seasonal hands-on project.  The students first read “The Little Scarecrow Boy” by Margaret Wise Brown. Then, they designed their own scarecrow. Finally, they brought the scarecrows to life through their narrative writings. Students included story elements such as characters and setting, dialogue, and sensory language in their work. The young authors’ works will be on display in local Burton storefronts during the Apple Butter Festival and the weeks that follow.  Stop by and read about some of these amazing adventures that the scarecrows have experienced.
