My lovely bride of 34 years and I took a day trip to downtown Cleveland to visit the Main Library; neither one of us had been there in 40 years. It is important to get out of the house now and then and these day trips are very enjoyable. Combine this with lunch at a nice restaurant and it feels like a mini vacation.

The main library added a new addition in 1997 that we had never seen; better late than never. They have a puppet display and I was surprised at the size, creativity and details in these creations. Some are real works of art and others simply amusing.

One of my reasons for going to the library was to do more research on the Lakeview school fire and Jane Dissette (a sight to behold article). Doing research is a bit like peeling an onion, one fact is revealed as another is hidden until you expose it, sometimes through frustration and at times through tears. Trying to find Jane’s maiden name has been a real exercise in futility since it alludes me at every path.

The librarian on the sixth floor was extremely helpful! He pulled a file loaded with newspaper articles about the fire for me to view; however, I could not find what I was searching for. I did find a Social Security number for Jane and hope someone at the SS office will be just as helpful!

The Main library has a reading garden and a gift shop where you can purchase Music CDs and books at bargain prices. Parking was a breeze on a side street behind the library and I felt safe walking to the main entrance. The meters are for two hours at a time so set your phone alarm; getting your car towed can be an expensive experience.
