Veteran’s Day is Monday, Nov. 11, an official holiday of the United States, the day commemorates the veterans and the people who have served in armed service. The day was marked as the end of the hostilities of World War I that occurred at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Parades, church services and other celebrations are held throughout the United States. In many places the American flag is hung at half-mast. A period of silence lasting two minutes may be held at 11 a.m. 

Tuesday, Nov. 5: Berkshire Elementary will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 9 a.m. where the Burton American Legion Post 459 and Auxiliary present the annual flag folding.

Thursday, Nov. 7: Ledgemont Elementary will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 9 a.m. where the Burton American Legion Post 459 and Auxiliary present the annual flag folding.

Thursday, Nov. 7: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the fifth annual Veteran’s Recognition lunch and pinning ceremony will be held at St. Mary’s Banquet Hall, 401 North St., Chardon (44024). All veterans registered with the Geauga County Senior Center are free. Non-veteran ticket price is $18. To sponsor a veteran, each meal is $15. For reservations, call 440-729-2782. 

Friday, Nov. 8: the Fuchs Mierachi School in Beachwood will hold a Veteran’s Day ceremony at 9 a.m. where the Burton American Legion Post 459 and Auxiliary present the annual flag folding.

Monday, Nov. 11: Newbury Elementary and Cardinal Elementary will hold a Veteran’s Day ceremony at 9 a.m. where the Burton American Legion Post 459 and Auxiliary present the annual flag folding.

Friday, Nov. 8: Burton Health Care and Middlefield VFW Post 9678 are hosting a lasagna dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Post, 16013 E. High St., in Middlefield (44062). 

Monday, Nov. 11: 4:30 to 7 p.m., Burton American Legion Post 456, 14052 Goodwin St., Burton (44021) will honor veterans with an open house, free chili and soup dinner and an opportunity to say thank you to our veterans.

Tuesday, Nov. 12: noon, the Middlefield Chamber of Commerce and the Middlefield VFW Post will hold a lunch meeting with speaker Jim Warren presenting his experiences on the Honor Flight. Meeting will be held at the VFW Post, 16013 E. High St., Middlefield (44062). Reservations required, call 440-632-5705.
