When Cardinal Athletic Director Jimmy Soltis wanted to schedule a race to benefit the track program, High School Varsity Track Coach Greg Cicero and Varsity Cross Country Coach/Middle School Track Coach Jenn Fekete came up with the ugly sweater idea.
The Ugly Sweater Dash 5K run and walk will take place Dec. 21 at 7:30 a.m. with race starting at 9 a.m. The purpose of this Ugly Sweater Dash is for fundraising, competition, and finding the ugliest sweater in town. The goal is to raise $10,000 to purchase hurdles and other needed equipment for the track program. The cost to run is $30; the first 100 participants will receive a T-shirt. Register online at http://tiny.cc/UglySweaterRun.
This is a timed 5K run and walk starting at the High School track to Tare Creek Parkway and back to finish in the High School parking lot. Participants are asked to come in the ugliest Christmas sweater they can find to wear in the race and for a contest that follows. Top three costumes will receive a prize. Top female and male finisher will win an amazing ugly sweater commemorative running top. Top two in each age group will receive a commemorative medal. After the race, a bonfire with hot chocolate and cookies will help everyone warm up. Tickets will be sold for a Chinese auction. The program is looking for a sponsor or sponsors who want their logo for advertisement on the new hurdles. To become a sponsor or make a donation, contact Greg Cicero at firstname.lastname@example.org. Checks can be mailed to Cardinal Schools, P.O. Box 7, in Middlefield (44062) with the words “Ugly Sweater” in the memo line.
