During the summer of 2019, Claridon Community Helps implemented Now That’s What I’m Talking About, a free summer lunch program, as a way to combat food insecurity for families in our community. The program served free lunches to children in the area covered by the Berkshire School District while they were on their summer break, providing meals to families no matter their financial situation. After a successful first season of the program, plans were made for 2020 to expand to include the Cardinal and Newbury School Districts as well.
This program is for ALL children who are in school and those who have not yet started school. There is NO income eligibility requirement, but all children must be registered for this free lunch program. Burton, Claridon, Huntsburg, Middlefield, Montville, Newbury, Parkman, Thompson and Troy, a different school, and home schooled are included for 2020 and will follow the same schedule as last summer. Hot meals will be delivered by volunteers to predetermined locations in each community to be picked up on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Monday and Wednesday a brown bag lunch will be included for Tuesday and Thursday.
Drop off locations will be determined once the children have been registered. The locations will be public places such as churches and school parking lots, including Amish schools. It is important to us that all children receive lunch and we will work to resolve any issues that may arise.
With the increase of number of children to be served, expenses will increase. If you are able to help with donations of money, food, supplies or time, please contact us. It is because of your generosity that we are able to continue to provide for these children, and your support means the world to us. We look forward to providing lunch to the children in our community.
If you plan to participate in this program, please register your child as soon as possible by calling 440-321-5596 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. or on our website at www.ClaridonCommunityHelps.org/summer-lunch.
