We would like to start by thanking all our customers since we took over the business in January 2018. It has been a pleasure serving our community and getting to know our customers. We couldn’t do it without you!

State Road Battery and Fabrics, 15789 Old State Road in Middlefield, started out as a buggy wheel and supply shop in the early 1980s owned by Albert Miller (grandpa) under State Road Buggy Shop, a small business with approximately 800 square feet. The business was later taken over by Albert’s son Levi and  wife Emma Sue Miller in 1999 (Amy’s mom and dad) and the name was changed to State Road Battery Pro as the business started to change from buggy supplies to specializing in batteries. In 2007 the fabric store opened which they operated until they retired in January 2018 under State Road Battery and Fabrics, a business that had grown to over 3,000 square feet of retail shopping and wholesale products.

My wife, Amy (daughter of Levi and Emma Sue) and I, Matthew Leslein, along with our six children, were fortunate to be able to buy and keep the business in the family.

After working at Kraft Maid Cabinetry for 19 and one half years, I was worried about taking this step. However, we were blessed with great customers and good mentorship our first year in business.

We had a goal of displaying our fabrics to our customers better with new racks and lighting to offer a large selection of fabrics and sewing notions. We added 18” dolls and doll accessories, Plant Therapy essential oils, CBD products, natural medicines, lotions and cleaners, starting and deep cycle batteries for all applications, Gas One butane fuels  and stoves, fishing products, scooters, Kinetico water filters, Blaschak coal and much more.

This spring we started to put surveys into our customer’s bags at checkout with the need to remodel our store. We also wanted to know what our customers are saying and would like to thank all that have sent in their surveys. If you haven’t done so, please get them in by our Aug. 12 through 15 Customer Appreciation Sale to be entered into a $50 gift card drawing. It is important for us to know what your needs are as we look forward to expansion in the fall with new products in time for the holidays and an open floor plan in our current retail store. We will be closed to remodel from Aug. 17 for one week and reopen on Aug. 24.

With all this we could not have made it without our main workers, Betty and Cindy Miller, who have been great for our business and our customers. Call us at 440-632-1846. The Leslein family says “Thank you and God Bless you.”
