In observing how people deal with the current Covid 19 crisis, I see many differing opinions. Some will always wear a mask, and others will not unless it is forced upon them. Some will always stay at home, but others will go almost anywhere. In fact, my wife and I have some relatives who, just last week, amid the global pandemic, traveled to the Virgin Islands. Some refuse to eat in restaurants, but others will willingly accept the risk. Some believe the crisis is certainly a death sentence, and others think it is merely a political ploy. Everyone does what they believe is the right way; and, right or wrong, people are quite passionate about the path they have chosen. It seems to be that people will do what they want to do. Unfortunately, that same attitude often carries over into the religious realm. When it comes to how one gets to Heaven, there are many opinions. Doing good to your neighbor, being baptized, giving to charity, and thinking that all religions lead to heaven are among them. However, God’s Word, the Bible, does not allow for man to follow his own opinions about how to have eternal salvation.
You must realize God’s one way. Last Sunday, I preached from Acts 4 where the apostles encountered persecution for preaching the narrow way that God’s Word prescribes. They boldly stated God’s way in Acts 4:12: “Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” God’s way does not lead you through a denomination or religious sacrament. Salvation from sin comes only through the name of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, and His work on the cross for you.
You must accept God’s only way of salvation. Jesus said it again in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” To receive forgiveness of sin and eternal life you must realize that God’s Son, Jesus, paid the price for your sin on the cross of Calvary. In John 3:16, God’s Word promises eternal life: ”For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
You can certainly choose your own path when it comes to avoiding the dreaded virus. There are many choices. But when it comes to your eternal salvation in Heaven, there is only ONE way: Jesus Christ. For information, visit our website: middlefieldbiblechurch.org.
