Over 50 people attended the grand opening of the Cardinal track on June 30 to experience a walk (or run) on the brand new track. The synthetic track surface is durable, weather-resistant, and reliable. It will not erode over time and can be maintained with minimal effort.
After 10 years of fundraising, the first part of the track got started last spring. The field has been expanded from three lanes to eight lanes, with the ability of the school to host larger meets and generate more income.
Superintendent Bill Kermavner told the crowd, “There is nothing like this (track) within a 50 mile radius” and thanked everyone for their unwavering support of Cardinal Schools.
Bill Fisher, retired track and field coach and athletic director, proudly announced , “This is yours to enjoy and we encourage the community to exercise on it. But there are posted rules for the track facility and anyone using it is expected to respect the rules.”
Cardinal School Board members took to the track and expressed their congratulations to Cardinal Community for this achievement that will be enjoyed by students and the community for years to come.
Future projects are a concession stand and restroom area at the football stadium. Donations will be accepted once the Board has started to look at plans.
