Saving a B-29; China Lake to Blue Skies

Tony Mazzolini shares his story of the history of “Saving DOC: China Lake to Blue Skies!“

On Monday, June 15th audience members were treated to a presentation by Tony Mazzolini entitled “Saving DOC: China Lake to Blue Skies.” It is the story of how Tony Mazzolini personally worked for over 30 year to bring this project to fruition.  This Program was presented live, at the Geauga County Airport in Middlefield, Ohio by  the Experimential Aircraft Assoc. (EAA) Chapter 5, and also broadcast on ZOOM, to reach an audience as far away as Washington state and Florida.  EAA is a national organization of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

They found the B-29 in the desert (at China Lake) and literally had to drag the plane across the desert, several miles, to get it to Wichita to be overhauled and restored.

The presentation concluded with a Q & A session and a raffle for a prize of Airplane-washing supplies donated by O’Reilly Auto Parts in Middlefield. Adults interested in Learning to Fly should attend the “Flying Start Program” on Sunday, August 23rd at 1:00 pm for a presentation on what is involved in learning to be a pilot, followed by “Eagle Flights” with a mentor pilot in an airplane.
